Consolidation loan for unlucky lovers

Looking for love is an expensive business, according to a new report, and could leave amorous Britons in need of a consolidation loan to sort out their finances.

Research carried out by MoneyExpert revealed that on average, single people in the UK spend more than £88 a month on dates, or £1,058 a year.

Men tend to spend more than women on impressive nights out, splashing out on average £96.58 on the object of his affection compared to just £68.82 spent by women.

But Sean Gardner from the price comparison website warned that allowing romance to rule your wallet could leave you in need of debt help or debt consolidation.

"Gone are the days of a bunch of flowers and a trip to the movies," he said. "But when love is in the air it's understandably difficult to keep track of costs."

People in the capital could inadvertently find themselves in need of a consolidation loan quite easily, as Londoners spend on average £108.30 on dates.
